Russian protest group Pussy Riot is working to address gender disparity in the NFT space.

The well-known Russian punk rock band plans to start a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) to promote LGBTQ+ and female artists.

This DAO aims to reduce the gender inequality that exists in the NFT market and, more broadly, the crypto business, according to the group's co-founder Nadya Tolokonnikova.

Russian protest group Pussy Riot is working to address gender disparity in the NFT space.

According to a report from August 2021, over 60% of US crypto investors are white men, and Nadya believes Pussy Riot is still early enough to have an impact on the scene.

“The NFT space is still so small, I feel that with a good enough effort you can actually change it,” she said.

Nadya is already hard at work promoting female-identifying and LGBTQ+ artists, connecting them with potential buyers through her large social media following. The DAO will expand this action, on a much larger scale.

“We are going to hire a whole team who will be creating educational material for girls who want to enter the space,” Nadya explained.

Pussy Riot, a punk music band from Russia, has received international acclaim for its controversial concerts and criticism over the Russian government.

The collective has been utilizing NFTs to generate money for social causes since last year.

The video for their music single "Panic Attack" was sold as an NFT series for a total of 178 ETH in March 2021.

The majority of the funds were then donated to domestic violence victims.

I wanted to bring large human rights and charitable components to NFTs” Nadya said.
